Drawing on over 25 years of expertise, Light Doctor continues to successfully perform service work for nationally-recognized companies including Eddie Bauer, US Bank, and Ben Bridge Jewelers; as well as large-scale retrofit projects such as McChord and Fairchild Air Force Bases, the Washington State Convention Center, School Districts, College campuses, hospitals and prisons.

 

Effectively carrying out lighting service and energy improvement projects of this caliber requires the highest standards in design, product selection, and service/installation of new or refurbished fixtures.  We employ only trained personnel, all of whom are supervised by licensed electricians.  High quality performance is a standard for the company and is assured because of the caliber of the people on the Light Doctor team.

 

Employee Quality Control

 

Pre-Employment Checklist:

• Prospective electricians and apprentices undergo the following prior to hiring:
• A rigorous, multi-step evaluation process.
• Licenses & certifications must be presented and are verified against WA State L&I database.
• Independent drug-testing. Light Doctor maintains a Zero Tolerance Policy.
• In-depth background check & driving abstract obtained on all final candidates.

 

Licensing & Apprentice Program:

• All technicians carry the appropriate licensing as prescribed in the Revised Code of WA State, Chapter 19.28.
• Apprentices are accompanied licensed supervisors, and their work consistently double-checked.
• Apprentices accumulate trainee hours under supervision, and are only be allowed to work independently after successful completion of WA State examinations.

 

Continuing Education:

• Regular advanced certification courses are conducted and designations earned, such as the CALT - Certified Apprentice Lighting Technician & CSLT - Certified Senior Lighting Technician offered by NALMCO.
• Mandatory attendance to routine product and emerging technology training administered by manufacturer’s representatives and other specialists/system designers.

 

Lead Technician/Trainer/QC Specialist:

Full-time position responsible for monitoring and increasing technician productivity and performance levels by providing expertise and guidance in the areas of customer service, lighting technology/job diagnosing/problem solving abilities, time management, and daily efficiency.

 

Random Lighting Inspections:

The Lead Technician and Management periodically visit customer locations to inspect the lighting, note situations deserving praise or opportunities for improvement, and provide technician feedback and mentoring.

 

Quarterly KPI Evaluations:

Technicians are given comprehensive performance evaluations based on pre-established goals and metrics. They are also given the opportunity to evaluate their managers.

 

Product Quality Control 

Light Doctor only purchases product from reputable suppliers.  All products must be UL Labeled and be warranted by the manufacturer. We also warrant all our work so the client does not need to worry about warranties.   If a product fails during the warranty period, Light Doctor will replace it without charge. Receiving payment from the manufacturer, for defective product, is a Light Doctor responsibility, not the clients. Because we take care of the labor costs of any warranty item, we make sure that we install only quality product.

Certifications & Licenses

At Light Doctor, we believe that quality people make for quality work.  As such, we require all employees, including the office staff, to study and pass the test to become a Certified Apprentice Lighting Technician.  By doing this, we insure that everyone in the company is familiar with our business and the work we do.

 

All our Lighting Consultants are either licensed electricians or have garnered advanced certifications.  Our field staff is regularly schooled in lighting and is required to sit for examinations as soon as they are qualified.  Because of this policy, we have one of the most qualified work forces in the industry.
